Gillespie and Welch chart the growing power of political independents, who now comprise the single-largest bloc of voters, and discuss the tools that citizens are using to successfully demand the same sort of personalization and customization in politics as they take for granted in their personal, cultural, and work lives.  Copies will be made available for purchase and autograph after the seminar.

Speaker Bios

Rupert Boneham, Keynote Speaker at Saturday Banquet, Survivor TV Star, and Libertarian Candidate for Governor of Indiana

Rupert Boneham

Boneham came into the national spotlight through his appearances on Survivor. During the first "Heroes and Villains" season, out of 38 million votes, 34 million viewers selected Boneham as their favorite survivor, and awarded him a check for one million dollars. This remains the highest vote total ever in a modern American TV reality show competition.

After winning his million dollars, Boneham made good on his promise to donate a large portion to create Rupert's Kids, the culmination of 20-plus years of work with at-risk youth. The organization's goal is to mentor at-risk youth. Their stated mission is to help, "those that have become too old for the youth social service system, but are not old enough for the adult social service system. We teach these youth valuable skills and trades, while also empowering them to discover their inner strengths, passions, and interests."

Rupert's Kids, in partnership with the City of Indianapolis, created The Park Adoption Program. The program has saved taxpayers $150,000.00 in the past years and continues to provide a safe, enjoyable work environment for Rupert's Kids. Rupert's Kids does not receive federal or state funds. Boneham continues to raise funds and awareness for Rupert's Kids through a campaign of nationwide appearances and speaking engagements.

Boneham owns and operates several small businesses including Tournament Towers, which has 10 crews on the road during football season. The company transports and sets up support gear for high-profile clients such as NBC Sunday Night Football, ESPN, and The NFL Network to name a few.

Boneham was born on January 27, 1964 in Detroit, Michigan, but grew up in Kokomo, Indiana which considers Rupert their most famous native son. Boneham has resided in Indianapolis, Indiana for the past 21 years. He has been married to his wife Laura for 14 years. They have one daughter, Raya.

Gillespie is a two-finalist for digital National Magazine Awards and one of the "Top 25 Journalists on The Right" according to the Daily Beast, which enthuses "the clear-headed, brainy Gillespie is among the foremost libertarians in America [who is] as often at odds with conservative mules as he is with liberals." Journalists With the Most Klout” (a Twitter-based ranking) and Business Insider’s “50 Most Influential Political Pundits Covering the 2012 Election.” He is the subject of a chapter-long profile in the new book Making It In the Political Blogosphere: The World’s Top Political Bloggers Share the Secrets to Success.

Prior to descending into the ring of hell known as political journalism, he was a staffer for publications such as Teen Machine (where his duties included ghost-writing an advice column for Alyssa Milano), Smash Hits, and Metallix: It'll Rock You to Shreds!. Gillespie was a regular contributor to the
pioneering satire site, Suck.com, where he wrote under the nom de plume Mr. Mxyzptlk.

Governor Gary Johnson, Presidential Candidate for the Libertarian Party

Governor Gary Johnson

Governor Gary Johnson is seeking the Libertarian Party nomination for President of the United States.

Governor Johnson, who has been referred to as the ‘most fiscally conservative Governor’ in the country, was the Republican Governor of New Mexico from 1994-2003.

A successful businessman before running for office in 1994, Gov. Johnson started a door-to-door handyman business to help pay his way through college. Twenty years later, he had grown the firm into one of the largest construction companies in New Mexico with over 1,000 employees. Not surprisingly, Governor Johnson brings a distinctly business-like mentality to governing, believing that decisions should be made based on cost-benefit analysis rather than strict ideology.

Johnson is best known for his veto record, which includes over 750 vetoes during his time in office, more than all other governors combined and his use of the veto pen has since earned him the nickname “Governor Veto.” He cut taxes 14 times while never raising them; when he left office, New Mexico was one of only four states in the country with a balanced budget.

Term-limited, Johnson retired from public office in 2003. An avid skier, adventurer, and bicyclist, he has currently reached four of the highest peaks on all seven continents, including Mt. Everest.

In 2009, after becoming increasingly concerned with the country’s out-of-control national debt and precarious financial situation, the Governor formed the OUR America Initiative, a 501c(4) non-profit that promotes fiscal responsibility, civil liberties, and rational public policy. He traveled to more than 30 states and spoke to over 150 conservative and libertarian groups during his time as Honorary Chairman.

He has two grown children--a daughter Seah and a son Erik--and currently resides in a house he built himself in Taos, New Mexico.
